V. A. Dzuba:Open-shell atoms and important problems of modern physics

2019-05-27

Abstract:Atoms are widely used in the fundamental research, such as breaking of fundamental symmetries, search for variation of fundamental constants, search for dark matter, etc. Accurate atomic calculations are needed for planing the experiment and interpretation of the measurements. Most of atoms have open shells with large number of external electrons. We have developed a method which combines configuration interaction with perturbation theory making it possible to perform the calculations for atoms with any number of external electrons. We use the method to study extra clock transitions in Yb atom for the benefit of searching for new physics beyond the standard model. We also study super heavy elements from Db(Z=105) to Og Z=118). This includes the study of isotope shift needed for the search of the hypothetical stability island.
