Luis Ho:Some Thorny Problems for Active Galaxies

2019-04-25

Abstract:Supermassive black holes and their external manifestation as AGNs figure prominently in many aspects of galaxy evolution. I discuss some pressing, unresolved problems related to the accuracy of black hole mass measurements in active and inactive galaxies, the occupation fraction of intermediate-mass black holes in late-type galaxies, the evolution of black hole-galaxy scaling relations, and the role of AGN feedback, star formation, and mergers in the lifecycle of black hole and galaxy growth.
